It’s that time of year again: when we see the first rays of sun appearing after a dark and dreary winter and can finally start to get excited for the summer. And what goes hand in hand with summer? And whilst it might be tempting to get upset about the fact we can’t all swan off to Coachella, it is actually worth noting that the UK has some of the best festivals in the world right on our very own doorstep…

If you’re a lover of old-school timeless acts then the Isle of Wight festival is the place for you. Hailing all the way back to 1968, this festival is widely respected by the music community and will continue to attract the best bands from the rock and roll world for years to come.

3. Bestival

Another festival that was originally housed on the Isle of Wight, Bestival is now set to make a new home at Lulworth Castle in Dorset. As the winner of countless festival awards, Bestival is a hub of creativity with weird and wonderful adventures waiting around every corner. And that’s not even taking in to account the headline acts which in the past have included Stevie Wonder and Elton John.

Most young residents of the UK know that Newquay is a hub of excitement and a great place to go on a trip with your friends. It can come as no surprise then that they decided to make a festival there that combines a range of musical acts and DJs with surf and skate competitions.

Describing themselves as a city in their own right, Boomtown Fair is the ultimate escape from reality urging you to take on your own character as you navigate the plethora of specially constructed streets and passages. For anyone out there who is a hardcore rock and metal fan, Download will be your dream come true. Playing host to some of the hugest acts in history such as Metallica and Iron Maiden this isn’t one that fans of rock music will be able to resist.

For those of you looking for a festival more on the refined side, Latitude is the perfect choice. Based in Suffolk, the difference about Latitude is that it puts an equal emphasis on the arts as well as the music, making for an altogether more relaxed atmosphere.

9. Reading and Leeds

It doesn’t get more prestigious for a rock and roll act than Reading and Leeds festival. It is also a little known fact that the older of the two, Reading, is the world’s oldest popular music festival.

Lovebox is a great choice for those who are looking for an amazing dance music festival experience but don’t really like the idea of camping. That’s because it isn’t even an option considering it takes place in London and on the whole people tend to only buy tickets for one day.
