Ever since it was first brought to our attention from the beautiful scenery in the Lord of the Rings trilogy all those years ago, New Zealand has remained firmly at the top of a lot of peoples’ ‘travel bucket lists’. 1. Bay of Islands, North Island

2. Auckland, North Island
A trip to New Zealand wouldn’t be complete without a visit to its largest municipality, Auckland. One of the few urban cities in the whole country, Auckland certainly sets itself apart by giving visitors a sense of relaxation set in amongst a buzzing cosmopolitan atmosphere.

3. Rotorua, North Island
Famous for its huge lake and steaming geysers, Rotorua is a wonderful place to take in some Maori culture whilst also witnessing some of nature’s most fantastic marvels.

4. Wellington, North Island
Not only is the scenic city of Wellington the destination you’ll need to make your way to if you want to visit the South Island, it is also New Zealand’s capital. And mark my words, you’ll definitely want to book yourself a ride on their famous cable car to get the best panoramic views.

5. Nelson, South Island
The city and surrounding region of Nelson has more picturesque lakes than you can shake a stick at. It is also in very close proximity of some of the most stunning national parks in the country, including Kahurangi and Mount Richmond Forest Park.

Even though Christchurch was hit by a devastating earthquake in 2011, the quaint city has showed its resilience by holding firm to its English heritage, which still makes it a lauded destination for tourists today.

It’s hard to believe you can actually take on your own expedition hiking across a glacier but this is a reality at the 13-kilometre Fox Glacier and will definitely be a once a lifetime experience.
